Poetry Legacy Transferred with Vekâletnâmes

Аннотация: In the classical Turkish literature, the 18th century was the period when the quantity of the literary work increased whereas their quality decreased. Despite many poets, the art of poetry was thought to be exposed to a danger of banalization.. In this kind of environment, Osmanzâde Tâib who was appointed as “Reis-i Şâirân” (Head of the Poets) with Sultan’s edict, started to write a criticism of the era. In his famous ode, he tries to show the difference between poet and the copier. He does not give any details about the identity of the poets because he does not want to hurt his friends’ feelings, but for a detailed evaluation, he assigns Seyyid Vehbî as his deputy. Seyyid Vehbi criticizes the poets of the era in the 80 couplets of his 170 verse. Our paper tackles with these two verses by considering the themes involved in their literary criticism of the era.
