Mongolian Morphemes in Dolgan
Hasan GÜZEL

Аннотация: In this study, Mongolian constituents in Dolgan language are examined according to the code-copying method described by Johanson (2003). The research indicated that many linguistic elements were copied to Dolgan from Mongolian, which was socially more dominant. The investigation into copied elements revealed that usually free morphemes from Mongolian were copied. Nouns and verbs occupy an important place among free morphemes. In addition to free morphemes, bound morphemes were also copied from Mongolian. Once bound morphemes were copied to the appropriate code in Dolgan, Dolgan gained morpho-phonological diversity. Code copying involves attractive and less attractive features. This study examines the relative attractiveness of free versus bound morphemes in copying, and focuses on the effect of typological similarities in Turkic and Mongolian languages on copying.
